Did you know that the world ciao (hello)- known all over the world – was born in Venice? Don’t you believe it?

Here’s  the story…

In past centuries, when people met in the calli (the Venetian word for “street”), it was typical to greet each other with the word s’ciavo vostro (literally “your slave” ). It was a form of courtesy that, with time and various contractions of the single word  s’ciavo, originated the well known greeting ciao.

The next time you will greet someone by saying ciao, remember that it comes from the Venetian dialect.

But this is not the only word that was born in Venice and if you are curious, follow us!!
