Ca’ Pesaro

A gorgeous baroque palace built on the Canal Grande, the main and most beautiful “street” of the city, for a powerful family of the venetian aristocracy. Since then a private mansion, in the XIXth century was donated to the city council by the duchess Bevilacqua la Masa for the specific purpose of exhibiting here the works of young and still unknown venetian artists. The Gallery of Modern Art was opened in 1897 and today is a permanent exhibition of works by artists like Matisse, Mirò, Klee, Klimt, Kandinsky and some of the most important italian painters of XIXth and XXth century. The last floor of the palace is given to the Oriental Museum: chinese and japanese objects like lacquered boxes, porcelains, weapons and textiles collected in XIXth century by Prince Henry II of Borbone in his travels through Asia.
